It’s that time of year again. Call your family and friends — and get ready to fire up the grill one more time for an all-out cookout. Although we’re year-round grillers (and will be cooking outdoors well into the fall and winter months), Labor Day is an opportunity to host an extra special get-together. We’re not saying ‘goodbye’ to summer — we’re celebrating it!
A Few, Labor Day Facts:
Canada celebrated "Labour Day" before us
“Labour Day," as it’s spelled by our neighbors to the north, was first celebrated in Canada in 1894 — on the first Monday of September, just like us.
Oregon was the first state to observe Labor Day
The first one to make it a statewide holiday, a full seven years before it was passed by Congress.
President Grover Cleveland made it a federal holiday
Made Labor Day official by signing it into law, designating the first Monday in September to always be Labor Day. The day honors the American labor force and the upholding of laws that make work conditions healthier and safer.

Labor Day Menu Ideas:
Corn Salsa
Mix the yellow and white corn, chilies, olives, scallions, tomatoes, jalapenos, vinegar, olive oil and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a medium bowl. Chill at least 1 hour.
Just before serving, add the cilantro to the salsa.
Turkey Club Kebabs
Make the kebabs: Combine the turkey, vegetable oil, lemon zest, paprika and 1 teaspoon each salt and pepper in a large bowl; toss to coat.
Preheat a grill to medium. Thread the turkey onto six 12-inch skewers. Wrap 2 bacon slices around each skewer, overlapping slightly, to cover the turkey.
Brush the grill grates with vegetable oil. Grill the kebabs, turning often, until the turkey is cooked through and the bacon is crisp, about 25 minutes.
Meanwhile, make the dressing: Combine the mayonnaise, buttermilk, lemon juice and parsley in a small bowl; season with salt and pepper.
Serve the kebabs in rolls with lettuce and tomatoes; drizzle with the dressing.
Cook’s Note
If you use wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes so they won't burn.
For the Kebabs:
For the Dressing:
