Halloween Home & Safety Tips
Halloween is almost here and while you’re probably still brainstorming genius costume ideas, we’ve got some basic tips to keep you and your loved ones safe at home and while out trick or treating this spooky season.
HOME SAFETY TIPS
|
- Turn on your outdoor lights to prevent trick-or-treaters from tripping on something while on their quest to get candy at your front door.
- Clean off your driveway and clear all walkways of leaves and debris.
- Always keep an eye on your front door as a precaution to keep intruders from sneaking into your home behind you.
- Take pictures of your home before trick-or-treaters arrive. In case something were to happen like an accident or vandalism, this could be proof that your home was safe and sound at the beginning of the night.
- Park your car in the garage to avoid any potential scratches or dings.
- Avoid using real candles for decorations and spring for LED’s. The last thing you want on Halloween is a fire.

COSTUME TIPS
|
Keep your little ones safe at night with these tips:
- Make a fun and festive name tag with your child’s name and contact information on it.
- Incorporate reflective items like bracelets, headbands, or something that allows you to see your child from far away in the dark.
- Make sure the props your kiddos carry are short and flexible.
- Consider costumes that are flame-retardant or made of polyester or nylon for added safety.
- Instead of masks, consider non-toxic face makeup for added breathability.

CANDY TIPS
|
- Be mindful of what candy you’re handing out and take note of what candy your children receive.
- Consider treats other than candy such as stickers, erasers, pens, pencils, and other items that might be appealing to someone with food allergies.
- Inspect your goodies once you get home and remove anything suspicious.Avoid anything that might be a choking hazard.
